Glass media lasts on average 10-15 years and has better filtration properties than sand or zeolite
Palatial Pools are able to replace your existing filter media with any filtration type of your choice. We offer Zeolite, Glass and AGM (Activated Glass Media). Our Zeolite and Glass media prices are the same, while a quotation will need to be provided for AGM. AGM media does NOT require replacement for the life of the product.
We would not recommend our clients to use sand, as the filtration quality and overall longevity are poor. We would always advise our clients to use glass due to its superior lifespan and filtration properties (positive electrical charge)
How our media changes are completed

Why Do We Need A Media Change?
Over time, the sand within your filter undergoes significant wear, leading to a decline in its filtering efficiency. This compromised effectiveness results in inadequate removal of impurities, algae, and other particles from the water. A routine sand change is essential to maintain optimal filtration performance, allowing the filter to capture and eliminate finer particles effectively.
Additionally, the accumulation of oils, sunscreen residue, and organic matter in the sand bed can lead to bacterial growth and reduced water flow. By undertaking timely sand changes, we not only restore the filter's efficiency but also contribute to the overall health and longevity of your pool equipment.

How Sand Filters Your Pool
In simple terms, filter media, like sand in pool filters, works like a sieve to clean your pool water. As water passes through the sand, the larger dirt and debris get caught on the surface, forming a layer. Smaller particles get trapped between the sand grains. The depth of the sand provides a longer pathway for water to flow through, giving more chances for the sand to catch impurities.
The uneven surface of the sand also helps friendly microorganisms grow, breaking down organic matter. When Palatial Pools changes the sand, it revitalizes this filtration process, making sure your pool water stays clear and clean for a better swimming experience.
The Different Types of Filtration Media
-
Sand: Traditional and cost-effective, sand filters are known for their durability. Sand effectively captures particles, but routine sand changes are essential to maintain optimal performance.
-
Diatomaceous Earth (DE): DE is a fine powder made from fossilized diatoms. It provides exceptional filtration by forming a thin layer on the filter grids, capturing even the smallest particles. DE filters require regular backwashing and occasional recharge with DE powder.
-
Cartridge: Cartridge filters use pleated fabric cartridges to trap impurities. They are easy to maintain and offer excellent filtration with less water wastage. Periodic cleaning or replacement of the cartridges is necessary for efficient operation.
-
Zeolite: Zeolite is a natural mineral with high adsorption capacity. It can filter finer particles than sand, providing enhanced water clarity. Zeolite is known for its water conservation properties, requiring less backwashing compared to traditional sand.
-
Glass Media: Made from recycled glass, this eco-friendly option offers excellent filtration. Glass media provides a smooth surface, reducing the frequency of backwashing and enhancing overall filter efficiency.
